Ising on The Cake

“She’s got a fine voice, an excellent sense of humour, and she works the crowd in the same deft way she stirs her chocolate batter”

Ising on the Cake, the Chocolate Experience

Devised, writtten and directed by Sharon Elizabeth

with musical director Paul Lewis at the piano

Running time: 1 hour and 20 minutes plus 45 minute bonus cabaret performance

No, you didn’t read it wrong and no, it’s not a misprint.  Ising on the Cake is Sharon Elizabeth’s unique one-woman show where she promises her audience a slap-up feast of music, comedy and cooking. Sharon Elizabeth has combined her earlier career as a bakery manager for top Sussex  cake company Kate’s Cakes with her singing talents to create a tasty theatrical  show that has led her quite literally to “cook up a storm” all over New Zealand and the UK .

Accompanied by her Kitchen Sink Trio under the musical direction of Brighton-based composer Paul Lewis, Sharon Elizabeth will mix a decadent chocolate fudge cake onstage amid red feather boas and retro props while telling her culinary and musical history and singing some great classics and original songs. Finally you are treated to a gorgeous cake slice and a cuppa before being entertained even further by the domestic goddess diva with a bonus cabaret performance.

Songs range from musical comedy to grand opera and everything inbetween!

“Night rich in song, laughs and cake...keeping a traditionally blasé Rotorua audience begging for the crumbs from an on-stage kitchen table” (Jill Nicholas, Rotorua Newspaper, Rotorua Arts Festival, New Zealand 09)

“Multi –tasking at its best, Sharon Elizabeth impressed us with both her singing and cake-making abilities. Styled on the domestic goddess of the 1950s – imagine a singing Nigella Lawson!” (The Brighton Evening Argus, Brighton Fringe Festival, UK 08)

“The wind was whistling down the tunnel at the Medici Court last night, knocking over props, ruffling the feathers of the decorative boas, and fluttering the star’s full skirt to almost improper levels. But Sharon Elizabeth, pure soprano, comic, chocolate-cake baker and ultimate multi-tasking woman, kept her composure and treated her audience to a slap-up feast of music, comedy and cooking....You really have to see this to get a feel for the Elizabeth experience: She’s got a fine voice, an excellent sense of humour, and she works the crowd in the same deft way she stirs her chocolate batter.....And the cake is to die for” (Denise Irvine. Hamilton Gardens Summer Festival.Waikato Times, New Zealand, 20th February 07)

“A multi-tasking mother with a sublime voice and a passion for chocolate cake took Pauanui by storm. Tales about her child hood, falling in love and growing fat from eating too much chocolate cake giving the show its humour and honest, heart-warming feel.A show that has proved to be a recipe to success.”(Alison Smith, Hauraki Herald, New Zealand 20th January 07)

I so admire people with beautiful voices. Thank you so much for a divine evening." Jen Murray

"I was completely blown away, wow what a voice. Those songs you sang were dear to my heart and as I am 53 and my father was a muso I always was treated to older songs for my age and have a love of Opera. I wish you all the luck and good fortune in becoming a leading artist in New Zealand and would love to hear you sing again. I could have listened to you all night." Audrey Cassidy, Auckland.

"I was at your show on Saturday night in Hamilton for the PMAANZ group and just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. A totally different concept to anything I had seen before. It was great singing, great entertainment and also a wonderful cake. Thanks so much for a great night." Glenis Ogle, New Plymouth.
